Our Work

We rolled up our sleeves and got to work! Our team bought and assembled shelves for the boarding house, giving the students more organized spaces. We also cleaned and organized the boarding house, and tackled a thorough cleaning of the library. We helped set up the robotics room, assembling furniture and fixtures, and even painted the steps to the new stage for graduation. And yes, there was some very intense, detailed work on the gym floor that truly tested our dedication!

Beyond the hands-on tasks, we had invaluable conversations with LPI leadership. We listened intently as they shared their needs and vision, discussing everything from scholarships and building issues to creative fundraising ideas.

Our Fellowship

Evenings were filled with fun and games galore! The competition was fierce but hilariously entertaining. (Pastor Sumesh, we’re still scratching our heads about why they call it Mexican Train Dominoes!) We shared many delicious meals and truly felt God’s presence with us around every corner.

Special People: The Holy Spirit Among Us

A Full-Circle Moment

On our first day, as we walked to the school entrance, a young man in a suit called out Donna’s name. It was a beautiful reunion – one of the former interns she and her husband hosted in Frisco! This LPI alumnus is now a pastor in Las Cruces, New Mexico, a detail Donna didn’t know at the time. He was simply attending a pastor’s breakfast at LPI that morning and had no idea we’d be there. It was a powerful confirmation that we were exactly where God wanted us to be.

Jaime, the Dedicated Maintenance Man

Jaime, LPI’s maintenance man, found his calling here. He left a promising job in home building after a whisper from a friend and an unexpected traffic jam led him to an interview at LPI. He immediately “fell in love with the kids and the idea of LPI.” Despite taking a pay cut, he’s been there for years, finding deep meaning and joy in his work.

Ruth Moreno, From Student to Teacher

I first met Ruth Moreno when she was a freshman at LPI. She’s the younger sister of Raquel Moreno, who inspired us to build five houses in Anapra with her dad’s church. While waiting in line for breakfast at LPI, I saw a familiar face – it was Ruth! She’s now an LPI graduate, a college graduate, and a beloved teacher at LPI. We had wonderful conversations, and her little brother is even the Senior Class President!

Marcaz, The Energetic Educator

Marcaz, LPI’s biology/physics teacher, was once a paralegal considering law school, and he’s also a professional choreographer! With his wife, an attorney, providing financial stability, he leaped at the chance to teach at LPI. He was drawn to the opportunity to connect with teenagers and teach them with engaging, hands-on lessons. He even started a fantastic dance club, and we saw them in action – they’re amazing!
